The numbers you need to know today

Modern Approach: Burger King is looking to make technology a bigger part of its operations. The fast-food giant created a new role that will essentially be spearheading its digital services, including mobile ordering. According to Bloomberg, Josh Kobza, who has served as Burger King's CFO, will be moving into that role.

Much Value: Speaking of fast-food giants, McDonald's new value menu is a key driver of same-stores sales growth, according to a survey from Nomura cited by CNBC, which polled 26 McDonald's franchisees who collectively own 286 stores. While many see that growth continuing in the first half of 2018, they also fear the menu "will diminish their ability to control menu prices and raise their food costs." According to eMarketer Retail's companies database, McDonald's comparable sales grew 6.0% in Q3 2017.

Slow Growth: Germany-based discount grocer Lidl's expansion to the US has been slow. The company opened its first locations in the country last year, and was set to open 100 more stores in 2017. However, those projects have been halted, according to Reuters.
