Walmart's Name Change: Small but Symbolic

Shift reflects 'how customers are shopping us today'

December 6, 2017

In yet another example of brick-and-mortar retailers’ growing online fight against Amazon, retail giant Walmart said Wednesday it is changing its legal name from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to Walmart.

The name change “is just a symbol of how customers are shopping us today,” said Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon in a blog post. The new name “is a way of better reflecting our company’s path to win the future of retail.”
